These are approximate windows because we time our treatments based on soil temperatures and weather conditions to ensure the products applied work as intended. Subsequent applications will be timed every 4-5 weeks from your first application, with your last application coming in the fall.
The best way to control crabgrass is to apply a pre-emergent so it does not get a chance to start growing. If it has already established itself there are post emergent treatments we can apply to kill it. If you have a 4 or 5 lawn application program, these treatments are included.
Weeds begin to curl and disappear in 2-3 days, but it may take up to two weeks before they are completely gone. Unusually hot weather, a heavy rain after your treatment, or mowing immediately after treatment can reduce control. If the issue persists, please let us know and we will be glad to investigate additional steps that can be taken to help get your lawn in top shape.
If the weeds do not die after the number of days required for results, we will provide a free re-spray if the request is within 14 days of your last regularly scheduled treatment. For any re-spray requests made after 14 days of your latest application; the next treatment will be applied instead of a service call at your regular treatment cost. The free re-spray is only for 4 & 5 application customers.
Weed control is dependent on the temperature. A general rule of thumb is the colder the evening temperature the longer it takes for weeds to die. Cold evening temperatures– may take 14 to 21 days to see results. Warm evening temperatures– should show results within 7-10 days.
We use both liquid and granular depending upon the application. All our fertilizer is granular, which is more effective than liquid because we can apply a mix of fast and slow release fertilizers. Having a mix of both means that your lawn is fed continuously. Granular fertilizers are also easier to spread throughout the lawn so it is less likely that we will miss an area. Our weed control treatments are liquid, which is the most effective way to kill weeds that are present in your lawn at the time of application. The liquid is absorbed directly into the plant leaves causing them to die much more quickly than a granular application.
When the lawn is dry (typically 2-4 hours), it may be used as normal.
Your gate must remain unlocked for the full day of your scheduled service. If you prefer not to unlock your gate, we recommend that you use combo locks and that you provide us with the password or combination. Sorry, we are unable to send our technician back or issue any credit for not treating inside a locked, fenced area.
We appreciate your letting us know if you have any pets that are kept outside so that your technician will be aware of them. Please leave your pet inside on your scheduled service day. Our lawn treatments are safe after they have dried (2-4 hours after an application). Please pick up all pet droppings, toys, large bones, large rocks, etc. the day before we treat your lawn. We do our best to avoid these items, but we do not want to spray weed killer on something your dog plays with, or your children’s toys.
It is not how long a technician is at your home that matters, but the care taken when applying the product that makes the difference. We use powered spreaders/sprayers that cover a larger area than a push spreader allowing for great efficiency. In open areas our sprayers can cover a path over 8’ wide at a time. Because of this we can treat an average-sized yard in less than 10 minutes if there are not too many obstacles to drive around.
We recommend to seed after the extreme heat of August has ended. Seeding early in the fall allows the seed to germinate and set roots yet this year. Seeding later in the season, the seeds will remain dormant in your lawn until the warm temperatures of next spring when they will begin to grow.
Depending upon your soil type the soil plugs can be hard to find. Sandy soils allow the plugs to break down very quickly, almost as soon as we pull them out of the soil. If you have a thick, lush lawn that is mown high, plugs can be hidden in the grass. Check areas where there is less grass to see if you can see the plugs or holes in the lawn there.
Aeration pulls up plugs that are about 2-3 inches long from your lawn. These plugs of soil will break down very quickly sitting on the surface of the lawn from rain, watering, and normal mowing. You should not remove the plugs; the natural breakdown of the plugs adds nutrients back into your lawn for the upcoming season.
Yes! Typically, turfgrass roots only grow 1-2 inches deep. Core aeration removes a cylindrical core, approximately 2-3 inches deep, creating a physical opening in the soil. This opening allows water and nutrients (fertilizer) to penetrate deep into the soil. Aeration encourages roots to grow deeper and denser, making your lawn more resilient to drought and weed infestation. Overseeding while aerating is the most effective because all the little holes in it will provide the perfect place for the new grass seeds to sprout.
Aeration is one of the single most effective practices to help your lawn thrive. We suggest one visit per year in the fall with over-seeding. However, for difficult soil conditions, or if you are looking for the ultimate lawn, a spring aeration will help improve the lawn faster.
We ask that you mark your sprinkler heads with a flag before we aerate the lawn so we can avoid those areas. While not common, sometimes sprinkler heads are damaged by equipment. We are not responsible for damage from aeration to buried lines, dog fences, sprinklers, TV cables, etc.
Our equipment uses wide, low-pressure tires to minimize any damage to your lawn. If you see tire tracks, they should go away within a day. If they last more than 24 hours your lawn could be thirsty – check to see when the last time it was watered.
If for any reason, you need to cancel or skip a service, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance by phone, or e-mail us at pys@precisionyardservices.com. We will make every effort to make the change if you contact us within 24 hours, but with no guarantees. After a skip, your service will be picked back up on the next scheduled service date for your yard. Our crews will not decide if your yard needs to be cut, so you will need to call or email us to cancel or skip a scheduled mowing.
If we arrive and are unable to complete your service (construction, other services being done to property, excessive amount of pet droppings, etc.) and we were not notified in advance to skip, you will be charged a trip fee of $30
As a professional lawn care company, our clients expect us to keep their grass mowed on schedule. This requires us to make good judgement calls on when to delay a mow. During months of the year when your lawn is actively growing it is better for us to come out and mow the lawn wet than it is to skip the lawn and run the risk of it going multiple weeks without a cut. There are times when ruts may be created in your lawn due to the lawn being wet when mowed. These ruts are almost always temporary and self fix as the lawn dries out.
If you ever feel like your lawn is too wet to be mowed on your scheduled day please contact us right away and we will be happy to skip your service. We do our best to make the best decision for our clients but because of the subjectivity of this type of situation it can be hard to get right every time for every client’s preferences.
Your gate must remain unlocked for the full day of your scheduled service. If you prefer not to unlock your gate, we recommend that you use combo locks and that you provide us with the password or combination. Sorry, we are unable to send our crews back or issue any credit for not servicing inside a locked, fenced area.
We appreciate you letting us know if you have any pets that are kept outside so that your technician will be aware of them. Please leave your pet inside on your scheduled service day. Please pick up all pet droppings, toys, large bones, large rocks, etc. If we find excessive amounts of pet droppings, you will be charged an equipment cleaning fee of $20. There is also a chance that we will have to skip your service for that day.
It is not how long the crew is at your home that matters, but the care taken when mowing/trimming that makes the difference. We use high-end commercial grade lawn mowers. This equipment can cover a much larger area than a standard mower typically found at a big-box store. Because of this we can mow an average-sized yard in less than 20 minutes if there are not too many obstacles to drive around.
Our mowing crews work Monday through Thursday. If necessary, they will use Friday and possibly Saturday to help make up for any weather delays. Several factors can affect our schedule, so we cannot guarantee an exact time or specific time range. We will try to update you if the crew is delayed. However, since the crews often work into the early evening, the office might be closed. You will be given an update as soon as possible the following day.
Yes, We price our service for weekly mowing. If you skip a mowing service, unruly and irregular grass growth can develop. It also can take the crews longer to mow and blow excess grass around. If you skip a service and this happens, you might be charged a service fee.
Start- Up: We will turn the system back on, checking for leaks, adjusting sprinkler head alignment.
Shut- Down (Blowout): We drain all remaining water from the pipes and sprinkler heads by using an air compressor. This prevents freezing in the cold weather. We ask that the water to system is turned off (usually in the basement) and we have access to control box (usually in garage).
Start-Ups are typically done April 15th-May 31st.
Shut- Down are typically done Oct 1st-Nov 15th.
Start-Up and Shut-Down are based on how many zones you have. Irrigation Repairs are based on an hourly rate plus parts.
